The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital has appointed Dr. Emmanuel Olaseinde Bello as the pioneer Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC). The appointment was confirmed by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Olusegun Ojo.
The CMAC, regarded as a key administrative position in federal teaching hospitals, heads the Directorate of Clinical Services — one of the three major directorates that make up the administrative structure of teaching hospitals across Nigeria.
Professor Ojo, while announcing the appointment, described Dr. Bello as a highly experienced medical professional whose expertise will strengthen the hospital’s clinical and academic operations.
Career and Academic Background
Dr. Emmanuel Bello, a Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, obtained his medical degree from the College of Health Sciences at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He later completed his Residency Training at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital. He is also a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics.
Bello began his consultant career in 2015 at the former State Specialist Hospital, Akure, before joining the foundation staff of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Akure, when it became part of the UNIMED Teaching Hospitals Complex. At the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, he served as Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health and is currently a Senior Lecturer.
Contributions to Healthcare and Research
Over the years, Dr. Bello has played significant roles on several statutory and ad hoc committees in both hospitals and academic institutions. He notably chaired the Infection Prevention and Control Team as well as the Hospital/Community Liaison Committee.
He is also an accomplished medical researcher with multiple publications in reputable Nigerian and international medical journals. Beyond his research work, he is widely respected as a skilled teacher and mentor, training medical students and resident doctors across different institutions.
With this appointment, FUTA Teaching Hospital aims to strengthen its clinical services and advance its reputation as a leading center for medical education and research in Nigeria.
