However, the length of stay varies by nationality. For instance, Indonesian and Thai visitors can stay for 15 days. Furthermore, travelers from Brunei and Qatar get 30 days. Most other eligible countries can stay for up to 90 days.
Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the following: “The period of stay granted upon landing permission will be 15 days” for Indonesia and Thailand. They added: “30 days” for Brunei and Qatar, and 90 days for other countries and regions.” Consequently, travelers must check their specific limits before flying.
Only 3 African Countries on the Japan Visa Exemption List
Surprisingly, only three African countries made the official list. These nations include Lesotho, Mauritius, and Tunisia. In contrast, many others like Kenya remain excluded. Thus, most African citizens still require a standard visa. This decision highlights Japan’s specific reciprocal agreements with certain regions.
New Passport Requirements for Japan Visa-Free Travel
Travelers must hold specific travel documents to qualify. Usually, you need an ICAO-compliant electronic passport. Alternatively, a machine-readable passport is necessary for some. Notably, Japan issued a warning for Uruguayan travelers. The policy excludes new passports issued there after April 16, 2025. Always check your document status to avoid issues at the border.
