Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced his defection to a new political party. The move follows his exit from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
On Tuesday evening, Adeleke unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform. SaharaReporters monitored the announcement and confirmed the development.
Why Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke Left the PDP
Earlier, Adeleke formally resigned from the PDP through a letter dated November 4, 2025. He addressed the letter to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area.
In the letter, the Osun State Governor blamed persistent crises within the PDP’s national leadership. He stressed that the internal turmoil made his continued membership impossible.
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the letter read.
Adeleke Reflects on His PDP Political Journey
Despite leaving, Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP. He noted that the party played a major role in his political rise.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party,” he stated.
Moreover, Adeleke acknowledged that the PDP shaped his political career before the current crisis emerged.
Accord Party Emerges as New Home for Osun State Governor
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had earlier reported Adeleke’s likely move to the Accord Party. Sources close to developments in Osun State had hinted at the defection days earlier.
Now, the confirmation signals a major political shift in the state. Analysts say the decision could reshape Osun politics ahead of future elections.
What Adeleke’s Defection Means for Osun Politics
Therefore, Adeleke’s exit adds to growing concerns about internal stability within the PDP. At the same time, the Accord Party gains a sitting governor, strengthening its national profile.
As events unfold, attention remains on how the Osun State Governor will consolidate power under his new platform. Political stakeholders across the state are already reacting to the development.
