Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has presented brand-new Toyota SUVs to traditional rulers across the state. The governor said the gesture demonstrates his administration’s dedication to the welfare and dignity of the traditional institution.
Speaking in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday, Aiyedatiwa described the car presentation as a historic step in strengthening traditional leadership and promoting grassroots development.
He said, “As the custodians of our rich cultural heritage, the preservers of our values and the closest link between government and the grassroots, our administration recognises your importance and cannot afford to neglect your welfare.”
The governor explained that each Grade ‘A’ Oba would receive a 2025 model Toyota Fortuner SUV, while all Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ Obas would later get the 2025 Toyota Cross Jeep. According to him, the vehicles symbolise honour, dignity, and respect for the royal fathers.
Aiyedatiwa Highlights Achievements in Traditional Affairs
Aiyedatiwa noted that within his first year in office, his administration completed the long-abandoned project for a befitting secretariat for meetings and other activities of the Council of Obas. He added that the government had consistently paid the statutory five per cent allocation from the 18 local government areas to support traditional institutions.
“This achievement, coupled with our ongoing welfare initiatives, underscores our firm dedication to your cause,” he said. The governor also appealed for the continued cooperation of the traditional leaders, assuring them that his government would keep prioritising their welfare and security.
Commissioner, Obas Commend Governor’s Gesture
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, praised the initiative, describing it as an appreciation of the traditional rulers’ vital contributions to peace, unity, and community development.
He thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for fulfilling his promise, saying the gesture reflects genuine recognition of the traditional institution’s role in governance. Takuro urged the monarchs to use the vehicles responsibly to serve their communities better.
In his remark, the Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, commended the governor for his consistent support to traditional rulers. He said, “The governor has always been a pleasant surprise to us in good deeds.”
Oba Ogunoye assured that the traditional rulers would continue to be partners in progress with the state government in sustaining peace and driving development across Ondo State.
