Abuja, Nigeria – The lawmaker representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally invited Senate President Godswill Akpabio to attend her project-commissioning ceremony in her constituency.
During Thursday’s plenary session, Akpabio read the invitation letter, which was extended to other senators as well.
The commissioning event is scheduled for Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State, and marks Akpoti-Uduaghan’s second year in the Senate. “In marking my second-year anniversary as serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for projects commissioning in Kogi State,” the letter states.
According to the letter, the meeting point is her residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, Kogi State. Senators travelling by air were advised to use Obajana Airstrip before proceeding by road to Ihima.
On the Senate floor, Akpabio congratulated Akpoti-Uduaghan in advance, saying: “Congratulations in advance.”
Why Natasha Invites the Senate President
The invitation marks a significant moment in the relationship between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio — after a high-profile dispute earlier this year over seat re-allocation in the Senate, which escalated into Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension on March 6.
Since her return on September 24, the senator has engaged more visibly with the Senate President during plenary sessions, including contributions to the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Her letter now represents the most direct step yet toward reconciliation.
Senator’s Perspective and Projects in the Pipeline
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan explained her invitation as “customary” and “procedural for such occasions”. She said:
“Today, as is customary for announcements of such nature, I wrote a letter … I put out the invitation so it wouldn’t seem like I was celebrating in isolation. I’m a progressive person.”
She reflected on her last two years in office—“six months of which I lost to an illegal suspension”—and announced the projects she will inaugurate.
“To the glory of God, we are celebrating our second year in office with the inauguration of many projects … we are starting from today. … We’re having streetlights, transformers, police station quarters … a brand new primary school, a brand new secondary school, and two brand new markets in two different local governments, among many others.”
An empowerment programme is set for November 2, where 2,000 beneficiaries will receive deep-freezers, gas cookers, electric vehicles, co-blast kits, sewing machines, farming tools, and more.
“As I said, from today we have a number of activities lined up … then I’ll travel the same night to Adogo … for the streetlights inauguration before getting back to Ihima.”
