Former First Lady Patience Jonathan has firmly dismissed speculations about returning to the Presidential Villa, stressing that she values peace above politics.
Speaking in an interview reported by The Guardian, Mrs Jonathan said she cannot return to the seat of power because of the challenges confronting Nigeria. According to her, “The distress of Nigeria is so much that if God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify Him. Why do you want to go back there? I need peace. My peace is enough.”
Her remarks come amid growing calls for her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan, to contest the 2027 presidential election. The push for his possible return has fueled debates within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where speculations are high that he may emerge as a candidate.
However, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga recently cautioned Jonathan against yielding to such pressure. Onanuga reminded him of his defeat in the 2015 general elections, urging the former leader to resist being drawn into the race.
Despite the mounting speculation, Goodluck Jonathan has not declared any intention to run in 2027. His silence continues to fuel political discussions, especially within the PDP, where the contest for the presidential ticket is already shaping up.
For Patience Jonathan, however, her stance is clear — a return to Aso Villa is not in her plans, as she prioritizes peace over power.
