The Federal Government has announced tuition-free education across all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) in Nigeria, covering essential learning costs.
Tuition-Free Education Policy Covers Multiple Charges
According to the Ministry of Education, the tuition-free policy will also cover boarding fees, uniforms, textbooks, and identity cards. Exercise books, prospectus, stationery, clubs and societies, medical services, utilities, security, extra lessons, and insurance are also included.
The government explained that this initiative is part of its free-education policy designed to make technical education accessible to every Nigerian child.
No Room for Illegal Charges
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, warned that no principal or administrator is permitted to demand unauthorized payments from parents or guardians.
“No Nigerian child should be denied access to technical education because of illegal charges. By investing in education today, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria,” Dr. Alausa said.
Parents have been urged to report any illegal financial demands directly to the Ministry through the provided hotlines and email address.
Renewed Hope Agenda and TVET Development
The Ministry said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The policy prioritizes Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key driver of human capital development.
“This initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes TVET as a pathway to human capital development,” Dr. Alausa emphasized.
By equipping young Nigerians with employable skills, the government aims to strengthen national progress and global competitiveness.
Monitoring Mechanisms in Place
The Ministry confirmed that monitoring mechanisms have been introduced to ensure compliance with the tuition-free directive. Circulars have also been sent to all Federal Technical Colleges and parents to reinforce the policy.
Personal Items Still Required
While tuition and key charges are covered, students are expected to provide personal items. These include Sunday or Jumat wears, slippers, blankets, bedsheets, pillowcases, towels, underwear, and cleaning materials.
Students must also purchase one ream of A4 paper (80 grams) for registration.
