Massive Relief as Students Regain Freedom
Massive relief spreads across Nigeria today. The remaining 130 abducted students of St Mary’s Catholic Primary/Secondary School are finally free. Bandits released the captives on Sunday, ending a terrifying ordeal for the Papiri community.
Witnesses saw the students in several vehicles late Sunday night. Consequently, security teams moved them to Wawa in Niger State. Officials believe the students need urgent medical attention. Therefore, authorities will transport them to Minna or Abuja for comprehensive medical examinations.
This specific event marks a significant victory for national security. With this latest development, a total of 230 students have now regained their freedom. Notably, this comes just two weeks after the release of 100 other schoolgirls from the same institution.
Governor Abiodun Confirms Release
Prince Dapo Abiodun confirmed the news early Monday. As the Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, he expressed sheer delight. Furthermore, he stated that this victory proves evil forces will not prevail over Nigeria.
Additionally, Abiodun praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that this successful rescue fulfils the President’s pledge. Tinubu promised to ensure the safe release of abductees without harm.
Governor Abiodun issued a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday. He said:
“I am extremely delighted to learn that the remaining 130 students of St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri community, Niger State, who were hitherto in captivity, have been released.”
A Boost for National Security
The Governor also highlighted other recent security successes. He cited the rescue of 24 people in Kebbi State. Moreover, he mentioned the Christian worshippers freed in Eruku, Kwara State.
According to Abiodun, these sustained releases restore public confidence in governance. They show the administration’s capacity to face security challenges head-on.
Thankfully, the students and parents can now celebrate the Yuletide season together. This reunion marks a happy end to a traumatic experience.
Abiodun added:
“The students, their parents, the Papiri community and the Niger State Government have all been through a lot, and I rejoice with them in this moment of triumph over the forces of darkness who seized innocent students from their hostels and teachers from the school premises.”
Call for Justice and Prosecution
Looking ahead, the Governor urged security agencies to stay alert. He insisted that the law must catch those responsible.
Abiodun emphasized the President’s commitment to safety. He said:
“If this incident shows anything, it is the commitment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to a safe, secure and prosperous Nigeria. The President deserves our collective prayers, support and encouragement.”
He further explained that tackling kidnapping builds confidence among Nigerians. Also, it paves the way for sustainable development.
Finally, he called for strict prosecution of the attackers:
“The security agencies deserve commendation for this achievement. I also urge them to ensure that the terrorists behind these attacks on innocent and law-abiding Nigerians are tracked down and prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by law.”
